Kathmandu District Court orders Lamichhane's release on Rs 6 mln bail

Kathmandu District Court has ordered the release of former Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane on bail in the funds embezzlement case of Swarnalakshmi Cooperative.

Advocate Raman Kumar Shrestha who pleaded the case on his behalf informed that Kathmandu District Court released Lamichhane on Rs 6 million bail.

A bench of District Judge Madhav Adhikari issued the release order following the bail-hearing that continued since Sunday.

 Lamichhane, who was released on a 6.5 million bail in the fund embezzlement case of Suryadarshan Cooperative, Pokhara on Thursday, turned up in the court on Sunday.

Lamichhane's statements were recorded in the bench of district judge Madhav Adhikari before being handed over to the police. The arguments and counter-arguments were presented by the state prosecutor and the complainant in the next two days.

Two accused in this embezazlement case have already released on bail. A case had been filed against 39 individuals including Lamichhane in connection with the fund embezzlement of Swarnalakshmi Cooperative at the District Court on January 5, Kathmandu, seeking a fine of 2.41 billion.
