Two people were killed and two others sustained critical injuries in separate accidents in Bara district on Sunday evening, the District Police Office, Bara, said.
According to Bara DSP Prakash Sapkota, an oil tanker (Na 4 Kha 4186) heading to Bariyarpur from Kalaiya hit a motorcycle (Na 47 Pa 5997) heading in the same direction, killing the motorcyclist in front of Nepal Bank in Kalaiya Sub-metropolitan City 4 on Sunday evening.
The deceased has been identified as Babita Thakur, 40, a resident of Bishrampur, Briddhawan Municipality-3, Rautahat.
Babita, who was seriously injured in the accident, died during treatment at LS Hospital in Parwanipur, Bara.
Babita's daughter, 11-year-old Moni Thakur, was injured in the accident. She is being treated at LS Hospital.
The tanker driver fled the scene following the accident. Police said that the search for him is ongoing.
Similarly, a 25-year-old youth died when a pickup van with Indian number plate, BR 30 AJ 3527, hit a motorcycle coming from the opposite direction at Adharshakotwal Rural Municipality-6, Laukaha.
The deceased is Aditya Kumar Pathak, 25, of Bihar, India. He died at Gandak Hospital, Birgunj, police said.
Rajan Das, 22, of Gaur Municipality-1, Rautahat, who was riding behind the motorcycle, was seriously injured. He is undergoing treatment at Gandak Hospital.
The police said they are investigating the case after taking the van that the motorcycle and its driver under control.
