Three people including a mother and her son have died after a TATA Sumo heading to Kathmandu from Khotang met with an accident at Manebhanjyang Rural Municipality-7, Bhandare Khola, along the Siddhicharan Highway in Okhaldungha on Thursday morning.
The accident occurred when the ill-fated TATA Sumo, Na 1 Ja 6421, was carrying an ailing passenger to Kathmandu from Diktel-Rupakot Majhuwagadhi Municipality-12, Khotang.
Maya Devi Gurung, 56, her son Pujang Gurung, 28, of Kepilasgadhi Rurla Municipality-3, Khotang and her sister Tara Gurung, 45 of Diktel-Rupakot Majhuwagadhi Municipality-12, died on the spot, said Police Inspector Sanju Karki of District Police Office, Khotang.
Anil Pandit, 22, of Sunsari, Inaruwa Municipality-2, who was driving the vehicle, is at large. The police said they are investigating the case and searching for the absconding driver.
A total of four people including the driver were traveling in the vehicle.
