Six people have been arrested in Biratnagar, Morang, on suspicion of murdering a girl whose body was found buried, the police said.
The police said the body of a 14-year-old girl was found buried at Bishal Chowk in Kalerwa Tole of Biratnagar Metropolitan City-5. Fourteen-year-old Chandni Yadav, who hails from India, had come to her maternal house in Biratnagar around 25 days ago.
Police said the girl's body was found buried, indicating that she had been murdered. The girl's body has been sent to Koshi Hospital for postmortem, informed DSP Bed Prakash Joshi of the District Police Office, Morang.
The girl, who hails from Bihar, India, had come to her maternal house in Biratnagar about a month ago with her mother Rajkumari and father Lalmohan Yadav. Her parents had left her with her maternal grandfather, Sarjug Mandal, before returning to India.
Police said the locals had started a search for her after Chandni went missing from the village 10 days ago. According to the police, the deceased girl's grandfather Mandal had told them that her granddaughter had returned to her own house, but the locals did not believe him and reported the matter to the police.
DSP Joshi said that the police started an investigation after the locals informed the police about the girl.
DSP Joshi informed that the girl's body was found buried in a mango grove field about 38 meters south of Mandal's house during the investigation.
According to the District Police Office, Morang, six members of the same family, including the deceased's 57-year-old Mandal, have been taken into custody on charges of murdering and burying the girl.
