Achyut Kalauni, the president of the Nepali Congress Bhimdatta Municipal Working Committee, was found dead in Kanchanpur.
Kalauni's body was found near Mama-Bhanja Chowk, Bhimdatta Municipality-18, on Saturday morning.
According to DSP Umesh Joshi of the District Police Office, Kanchanpur, Kalauni's body was found lying with his face down on the roadside.
Police have now reached the spot. It has now been cordoned off and sealed. Police have said that a team including a doctor has been called in. The cause of death has not yet been revealed.
Kalauni, who came to the mainstream politics of Nepali Congress from the politics of the Nepal Students' Union, was currently the president of the Bhimdatta Municipal Working Committee.
Kalauni, former central joint general secretary of the Nepal Students' Union, was the chairman of the Management Committee of Baijnath Secondary School in Mahendranagar.
