Ten people were arrested from different parts of the eastern districts of Nepal during a two-day bandh called by the Mukumlung Conservation Joint Struggle Committee.
Six bandh enforcers were arrested from the Dharan Sub Metropolitan City during a clash with the police. According to the Area Police Office, Dharan, they apprehended protestors while the latter were enforcing bandh.
Similarly, four people were arrested while the latter were vandalizing vehicles in the course of enforcing bandh in Dhamak, Jhapa.
According to SP Milan KC of District Police Office, Jhapa, the bandh enforcers have vandalized two vehicles. The clashes erupted after the security personnel intervened while the bandh enforcers were vandalizing vehicles in the course of enforcing bandh in the eastern districts of Nepal.
The protesting group has enforced a shutdown in Taplejung, Panchthar, Ilam, Jhapa, Morang, Sunsari, Dhankuta, Tehrathum and Sankhuwasabha.
The Mukumlung Conservation Joint Struggle Committee has called a two-day bandh in nine districts east of the Arun River in protest against the cable car construction at Pathivara Temple area.
The bandh enforcers also demanded that the injured be provided with lifelong livelihood, a high-level judicial investigation committee be formed into the incident, and strict action be taken against the culprits.
They have also demanded free treatment for the injured, the release of those arrested, the withdrawal of the armed forces and Nepal Police from Kafle Pati, and an immediate halt to the construction of the cable car, warning of an indefinite general strike if their demands were not addressed even after the two-day shutdown.
The agitating group, which had been blocking the Mechi Highway and Tamor Corridor, has enforced the bandh in nine districts east of the Arun River on February 2 and 3.
