Panchayat era MP Nanimaiya Dahal passes away

Nanimaiya Dahal, who was elected to the Rastriya Panchayat as an independent candidate during the Panchayat era, has passed away. She was 92.

Nonagenarian Dahal passed away in the course of treatment at a hospital in Kathmandu on Monday afternoon, her family sources said.

Family sources have stated that her last rites will be performed at Pashupati Aryaghat today itself.

After the country adopted the Panchayat party-less political system, the election was held in Kathmandu-1 on May 9, 1981. Dahal had won the election by defeating Jogmehar Shrestha. She came into the limelight after defeating Shrestha by a double margin of votes. 

Nanimaiya Dahal had been elected vice chairperson in Kathmandu in 2029 BS.
