Four-time champions Germany launched their 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign with a clinical 7-1 demolition of tournament debutants Curaçao in their opening Group E fixture. While the historic newcomers briefly managed to stall the European powerhouse, Germany's lethal finishing and overwhelming tactical dominance proved far too steep a mountain to climb, securing them a comfortable three points.
The Germans broke the deadlock early in the 6th minute when Felix Nmecha fired home a sharp finish following a neat combination play. However, Curaçao sent shockwaves through the stadium in the 21st minute, scripting history with their first-ever World Cup goal. Livano Comenencia capitalized on a loose ball to score an equalizer, drawing the underdogs level at 1-1 and sending their fans into raptures.
Germany quickly regrouped and restored their lead in the 38th minute when defender Nico Schlotterbeck powered home a finish. Just before the halftime whistle, in the added minutes of the first half, Germany was awarded a penalty. Kai Havertz coolly stepped up and converted the spot-kick, giving the Germans a commanding 3-1 lead heading into the break.
The second half turned into a complete routine for the German side as they capitalized on their momentum. Just two minutes after the restart, Jamal Musiala extended the lead to 4-1 in the 47th minute. Nathaniel Brown then found the back of the net in the 68th minute, followed ten minutes later by Deniz Undav in the 78th minute. Kai Havertz rounded off the spectacular performance by completing his brace in the 88th minute to seal the 7-1 victory.
Statistically, Germany completely dictated the tempo of the game by taking 26 shots, with 11 hitting the target. They controlled 65% of the possession and completed 599 passes with an impressive 89% accuracy. In contrast, Curaçao managed 6 shots with 2 on target, holding 35% possession and completing 289 passes at an 84% success rate.
Despite Germany committing 16 fouls to Curaçao's 10, the match remained remarkably clean, with the referee not issuing a single yellow or red card. Germany also earned 8 corner kicks compared to Curaçao's single corner, while the entire match saw only one offside call. With this dominant win, Germany assumes early control of Group E with 3 points and a massive goal difference.
