Matt Rose, newly appointed head coach of Nepali National Men's Football Team, has stated that his main goal is to lead Nepal to victory in the SAFF Championship.
Speaking at a press meet organized in Kathmandu on Monday, Rose said he will also prepare the Nepali team to qualify for the Asia Cup.
"I will leave no stones unturned to prepare the Nepali team to qualify for the Asia Cup. Even if I failed to make it, I believe, I will be able to lead the team to victory in the SAFF Championship."
Meanwhile, he also urged the Nepali players abroad and especially those gone out of contact, return home and join the national team.
Expressing his happiness for becoming the coach of the Nepali team, he said he has seen an incredible craze for football in Nepal.
"The passion for football in Nepal is truly remarkable. My goal is to achieve significant success for the team and make the fans proud," he said.
He mentioned that some improvements are required in ball control and transitions, and emphasized the need to play with high morale. Rose has signed a one-year contract with the All Nepal Football Association (ANFA).
The tenure of former coach Vincenzo Alberto Annese ended in June. Australian citizen Rose holds the 'UEFA Pro License' certification. Rose has experience managing the South Korean national women's team. He was the head coach of Korea from 2020 to 2023. He also has experience coaching the Swedish women's top division club Vinsö GIAK.
From a highly competitive pool of candidates, including Spain's Juande Ramos and Julen Guerrero, France's Rene Lobello, and England's Jamie Day, Rose was chosen as the Nepali national team's head coach.
As many as 400 applicants had applied for the position of the head coach of the Nepali national team.
