A Melamchi drinking water pipe has burst in Thapathali, Kathmandu, resulting in floods and a large crater in the road.
The road from Thapathali Chowk toward Paropakar Maternity and Women's Hospital has been blocked due to the crater created by the flood.
A large flood flowed from Thapathali Chowk toward the maternity hospital after the pipeline burst. Although the water flow has subsided, vehicles cannot pass through the road due to the large crater.
Security personnel from Kathmandu Metropolitan City including traffic and city police are currently working at the site.
The cause of the pipe burst in Thapathali is unknown. Ashok Kumar Paudel, Chief Executive Officer of Kathmandu Upatyaka Khanepani Limited (KUKL), stated that preparations are underway to repair the pipe and resume water distribution.
"The water supply pipeline has burst. We will determine the cause of the burst and start water distribution after repairing the pipe," he said.
Earlier on February 12, a Melamchi drinking water pipe burst in Babarmahal, Kathmandu, causing inundation in the Babarmahal area.
