Nine Nepali nationals, who had illegally entered the United States of America, have arrived in Kathmandu this morning.
According to the Information Officer at the Immigration Department, Sita Pariyar, eight of them arrived on a chartered flight of Griffon Air and the other one on a flight of Qatar Airways.
Of those who landed at the TIA, eight individuals have been handed over to the Anti-Human Trafficking Bureau of Nepal Police, Babarmahal for necessary investigation, SP Narendra Kunwar, the Bureau's spokesperson said. After an investigation, they will be handed over to their respective families.
"They have now arrived at our office. Now, we will inquire about how they went to America, whether someone sent them to America under false pretenses before handing them over to their families," SP Kunwar told Nepalkhabar.
Earlier, it was reported that 10 Nepali nationals were arriving in Kathmandu.
According to the Tribhuvan International Airport Office, a Gulfstream aircraft operated by the American airline Griffon Air landed at 9:53 am on Wednesday. The plane came from Portsmouth International Airport in the US State of New Hampshire.
The same flight also brought some Albanian citizens. The immigration office stated that the aircraft proceeded to Nepal after dropping off the Albanian citizens at Tirana International Airport.
In January, six Nepalis were deported, followed by 20 in February, and one in March. During this period, the US administration reported that three Nepalis were deported to Panama.
During the previous four-year term of President Joe Biden, it is estimated that around 9,000 Nepalis entered the US without visas. Among them, 2,008 are currently in the custody of the US administration.
In the first phase, the US administration is preparing to deport 1,445,549 immigrants who have been residing illegally in the USA.
With this, a total of 36 Nepalis have been deported to Nepal from America.
