The Holi, the festival of colors, has officially begun with the hoisting of a colorful bamboo flag at Hanuman Dhoka Durbar Square at Basantapur, Kathmandu.

The Holi festival is considered to have begun following the erection of a three-layered flag on the south side of the Gaddi Baithak within the Hanuman Dhoka Durbar Square at Basantapur.

The Manandhar community raised the colorful flag and celebrated the arrival of Holi by applying abir (vermillion powder) to each other at the auspicious time of 8:33 AM today.

Similarly, colorful cloths are hung at Sundari Chowk of Hanuman Dhoka Durbar, and the Krishna Mandir premises of Patan Durbar Square in Lalitpur, signaling the start of Holi.
