The dismissal of Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) Managing Director Kulman Ghising has sparked controversy, with the issue now entering parliamentary discussions.
During Wednesday’s session of the House of Representatives (HoR), opposition lawmakers, including those from the CPN (Maoist Center), strongly protested the government's decision. Maoist Center MP Shakti Basnet was the first to raise the issue, calling Ghising’s removal "wrong" and demanding a valid reason for his dismissal.
Subsequently, Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal "Prachanda" and other opposition leaders joined in condemning the move.
Following the disruptions by the opposition party leaders for around 18 minutes, the HoR meeting has been postponed for half an hour.
The government had dismissed Ghising on Monday, replacing him with Hitendra Dev Shakya, triggering widespread backlash. Several political party-affiliated sister organizations have taken to the streets in protest, with some even burning effigies of Energy Minister Deepak Khadka.
Earlier in the day, opposition parties held a meeting and decided to formally oppose Ghising’s removal in Parliament. The House session began amid heightened tensions over the issue.
