Bar election: Vote counting begins

The counting of votes for the 27th Central Working Committee (CWC) of the Nepal Bar Association (NBA) has started. The counting of votes has started from the ballot boxes from Ilam, advocate Chiranjibi Khatiwada told Nepalkhabar.

Voting was held on Saturday for the new working committee of the Bar. According to Chief Electoral Officer Senior Advocate Ram Krishna Nirala, the ballot boxes have arrived in Kathmandu from outside valley voting stations and the counting of votes will begin at 12 noon.

There were 9,957 voters to elect the new working committee of the bar, out of which 80 percent voters cast their votes in the election. A total of 57 candidates had filed their candidacies for the 25-member working committee. Voting was held at a total of 36 polling stations in Kathmandu and outside.

Senior advocate Prof Dr Bijay Prasad Mishra and senior advocate Raman Kumar Shrestha are vying for the post of chair in the election.

Senior advocate Kedar Prasad Koirala has been nominated for the post of general secretary in the panel of senior advocate Mishra while advocate Yagya Mani Neupane has filed his candidacy in the panel of senior advocate Shrestha.
