The government of Nepal has donated 27 tons of relief materials to the quake-hit Myanmar. The materials were provided as relief to the Myanmar people suffering the loss and devastation in recent earthquake.
The Nepali team handed over the relief materials to the Myanmar officials at the Yangon International Airport on Thursday morning. Chief of the South East Asia at Foreign Ministry, Joint Secretary Tapas Adhikari, shared this information. The relief materials include foods items, daily essential, medicines and health supplies.
Nepali Ambassador to Myanmar, Harish Chandra Ghimire and Myanmar officials were present during the handover. A brief discussion was held between the officials from two countries.
The Nepali delegation comprised 16-members including Foreign Ministry officials and media persons.
In the brief meeting, Joint Secretary Adhikari paid tributes to those who lost their lives in the quake and extended condolences to the Myanmar government and people at this hour of grief. He also wished speedy recovery of those injured in the disaster.
Adhikari reminded that Myanmar government had also assisted Nepal during the 2015 earthquake.
"Myanmar witnessed devastative earthquake. At such difficult time, Nepal government and private sector joined hands to provide relief materials to the Myanmar people. Nepal government continues to support in future. Such cooperation will help boost two-country intimacy," he added.
On the occasion, a government official from Myanmar, Heu Wai Lwin, thanked Nepal government for the succor. He informed that so far more than 3,590 persons had lost lives in the quake, while 4,800 were injured and 148 gone missing.
Nepali Ambassador Ghimire shared that there were some 150,000 Nepalis working in Myanmar and 18 of them had died in the quake. Some 15 Nepalis are still missing in the disaster.
On March 28, the east Asian country was jolted by a magnitude 7.7 earthquake.
An umbrella organization of Nepalis in the country has been providing shelter to some 250 Nepalis surviving the earthquake.
Meanwhile, a medical team of Nepali Army has been provided emergency medical service to the quake survivors. The NA team has so far provided service to over 1300 affected people in the quake-hit region. (RSS)
