The truck driver, who was caught with a huge amount of foreign currencies at Tokha Municipality in Kathmandu, has been sent to jail.
The Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office arrested Kusang Lama of Bhotekoshi Rural Municipality of Sindhupalchowk with Euro 1 million 375 thousand 150 and US $320 thousand 850 at Tokha-2, Jhor on March 17.
According to the Department of Revenue Investigation, the money belonged to Narayan Paudel of Bhotekoshi Rural Municipality.
A single bench of District Judge Thakur Prasad Kharel on Wednesday issued an order sending Lama to jail for further investigation. The alleged owner of the seized money, Paudel, is at large.
The seized amount was Rs 253 million, 478 thousand, 842, based on the foreign exchange rate set by Nepal Rastra Bank on that day, the Department said.
A case has been filed seeking a punishment against the concerned, in accordance with the Section 3, 4, 5, and 9 of the Foreign Exchange (Regulation) Act, 2019 BS.
The foreign currencies were confiscated from within the container of the truck (Na 7 Kha 1652), driven by Lama on March 17.
