The University Grants Commission (UGC) has formed a committee to probe Nepali student Prisa Sah's death at the Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, India.
According to the Indian newspaper Amar Ujala, the committee has been given a 10-day deadline to submit its investigation report.
Indian media reported that 20-year-old Prisa was found dead on Thursday night in her hostel room at KIIT College.
"UGC has formed a fact-finding committee led by former IGNOU Vice-Chancellor Professor Nageshwar Rao to investigate student suicide cases at KIIT in Bhubaneswar and suggest measures to prevent such incidents in the future," said UGC Secretary Manish Joshi.
Preliminary investigations suggest suicide, though the exact reasons remain unclear. Police are currently probing the case. This is the second incident of a Nepali student in less than three months in the Indian college.
Earlier, on February 16, another Nepali student, Prakriti Lamsal, was also found dead in the same college.
Nepali computer science student Lamsal took her own life after allegedly being blackmailed by a classmate.
The case had sparked outrage when faculty members were accused of making racially insensitive remarks against Nepali students.
