Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Member of Parliament (MP) Shishir Khanal has urged the government to take immediate steps to rescue Nepali students stranded in Pakistan.
Speaking in the meeting of the House of Representatives on Friday, Khanal said, "Eighty Nepali students studying in Pakistan have requested rescue. Immediate action must be taken for their safety and evacuation."
He also condemned the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir, India, and emphasized that as the chair of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC), Nepal should naturally be concerned about the tensions between India and Pakistan.
"The relation between India and Pakistan is tense," he said. "Given Nepal's role as SAARC chair, the country has a natural interest in regional peace and stability."
While welcoming the Foreign Ministry’s statement condemning terrorism, Khanal demanded that the government assess the potential security, economic, and supply chain impacts on Nepal if war breaks out between India and Pakistan.
He also urged the government to inform the parliament about its preparedness and called for a ruling to ensure transparency on the matter.
