The 2569th Buddha Jayanti is being celebrated by organizing various programs across the country today.
A special program is organized at Lumbini, the birthday of Gautam Buddha, to mark Buddha's birthday that falls on Baisakh Shukla Purnima (the full moon day of the Nepali month Baisakh).
Coincidentally, the birth, enlightenment and Mahaparinirvan (death) of Buddha occurred on Baisakh Sukla Purnima. Hence, this day is observed as Buddha Jayanti across the world, including Nepal.
Buddha is also known as the pioneer of the World Peace.
Buddha, also known as Siddhartha Gautam, was born to father Suddhodhan and mother Maya Devi in 563 BC at Lumbini in Kapilvastu in 563 BC.
After having seen sufferings everywhere in the society, he left home in search of its remedy when he was 29 years sold. He meditated in penance under a peepal tree at Bodh Gaya, India and got enlightenment in 528 BC.
Buddha passed away at Kushinagar at the age of 80 in 483 BC.
