Indian Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Bhupender Yadav, addressed the inaugural session of the maiden Sagarmatha Sambaad that kicked off in Kathmandu on Friday, stressing the urgent need for global climate action to protect the Himalayas and humanity's future.

The international dialogue, themed "Climate Change, Mountains and the Future of Humanity", brought together leaders and experts to discuss sustainability and global partnerships. Minister Yadav underscored the disproportionate environmental burden borne by the Himalayan region and India’s commitment to climate action.

"The Himalayas bear a significant part of the burden of the environmental crisis. We in India, with our significant Himalayan territory, witness these impacts first-hand," said Yadav. "India shares the concerns of the mountain States and their people. Our environmental futures are intrinsically linked."

Reaffirming India’s dedication to climate initiatives, he added, "Under the leadership of PM Shri Narendra Modi ji, India is deeply committed to contributing to climate action with the urgency it demands, despite our minimal role in causing the crisis."

The Sagarmatha Sambaad serves as a key platform for fostering collaboration among nations to address pressing climate challenges, particularly in vulnerable mountain ecosystems.

There will be a series of plenary sessions after the inaugural session.

The program includes various sessions, seminars, and keynote speeches on topics such as climate action, sustainability, and global partnerships.

More than 350 national and international distinguished personalities are taking part in the three-day international event.
