A city in Malaysia.
Around 150,000 Nepali migrant workers have been staying illegally in Malaysia, according to the Nepali Embassy in Malaysia.
They do not fall under the purview of the social welfare service since they have not renewed their labor permit. In the event of their death, their families will not get compensation nor will they get relief from the labor board.
According to the provision, the board will provide Rs 25,000 to the family of a migrant worker if he/she dies in the line of duty.
The term of the labor permit lasts for two years, according to the Foreign Employment Act, 2007.
In violation of this provision, there is a practice that a migrant worker is forced to work by making him/her sign a contract for three years.
