The government has allocated a budget for the infrastructure development of internal airports of the country.

Unveiling the budget for the fiscal year (FY) 2082/83 BS in the joint session of the Federal Parliament on Thursday, Finance Minister Bishnu Paudel said NPR 500 million has been allocated for the preparations of detailed project reports (DPRs) of Chuhandanda Airport of Tehrathum, Sagarmatha Airport of Udayapur and Ajayameru of Dadeldhura.

Similarly, Suketar Airport of Taplejung, Tarigaun Airport of Dang, Bhadrapur Airport of Jhapa will be upgraded for the smooth operations of domestic flight services.

Suketar, the only airport in Taplejung district, operates for just six months a year, forcing locals to rely on buses to travel to the Terai region. Meanwhile, the construction of Chuhandada Airport—announced during the late Rabindra Adhikari’s tenure as tourism minister—has yet to begin.

Likewise, a time-bound action plan will be prepared to upgrade Surkhet Airport into a provincial airport.
