The Nepal Telecommunication Authority (NTA) is set to fully implement the Mobile Device Management System (MDMS) from December 30.
The move is aimed at systematic management of mobile handsets within the country, including discouraging illegal import, sale, distribution and use and tracking or blocking of stolen or lost mobile phones.
Issuing a notice on Saturday, the NTA called for the registration of mobile handsets brought from abroad by December 30, adding that after the said date, registration would be permanently closed.
The NTA had earlier implemented MDMS on a trial basis for tracking/blocking stolen and lost mobile phone. The NTA said full-fledged impelementation of MDMS would start from December 30.
The authority requested to update the details of mobile handsets brought by Nepalis from abroad for private use (that are not yet registered in MDMS or were not in use in Nepal before August 30) along with required documents such as visa stamps, purchase bill and customs declaration, among others.
