Sahayatri International Alliance for Social Justice, a Canada-registered NGO, has called on the G7 nations to prioritize the eradication of caste and descent-based discrimination globally.
In a formal letter to Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, the current G7 chair, the organization demanded the issue be included in the summit’s official agenda.
The letter, signed by Sahayatri’s President Dr. Drona Rasali, highlights that over 250 million people worldwide face systemic caste-based exclusion and violence. "Caste discrimination originated in South Asia has spread globally due to migration. Marginalized communities, like Dalits, Roma, and Burakumin, continue to endure injustice," Dr. Rasali stated.
The appeal follows the Toronto Declaration 2025, adopted at the Global Conference for a Caste-Free World (May 25–27), which outlined a roadmap to end caste oppression. The NGO emphasized that global peace and security cannot be achieved without addressing this issue.
The G7 summit, underway in Kananaskis, Alberta, includes leaders from the US, UK, France, Germany, Japan, Italy, and Canada, along with EU and Indian representatives.
This marks the first time a formal appeal to combat caste discrimination has been presented to the G7. The 130-page document contains historical evidence and policy recommendations.
