Nepali Congress Central Working Committee member, Dr. Shekhar Koirala.
Dr. Shekhar Koirala, a central working committee member of the Nepali Congress (NC), has stressed that the party’s general convention must be held by November 2026 as scheduled.
Addressing a gathering of party workers in Tanahun on Sunday, Dr. Koirala emphasized that delaying the convention would not benefit the party. "The general convention must be held on time. The longer it is postponed, the more it harms the party," he said.
He further argued that the convention should be held before the 2027 general elections, given the upcoming local, provincial, and federal polls.
Reflecting on Tanahun’s historical significance as a stronghold for the NC, Dr. Koirala acknowledged that the district’s political dynamics have shifted since senior leader Ram Chandra Paudel was elected President. He called for fresh leadership strategies to revitalize the party’s presence in the region.
Dr. Koirala also raised concerns over delays in membership renewals and urged senior leaders to actively engage at the ward level to motivate workers. "If there are weaknesses in membership renewals, senior leaders must visit grassroots workers and encourage them to complete the process," he said.
The remarks come amid growing discussions within the NC about organizational restructuring and preparations for upcoming elections.
