ACC U16 ODI East Zone Cup: Nepal defeats Japan by 9 wickets

Nepal has trounced Japan by 9 wickets in the ACC Men’s U-16 East Zone Cup ODI cricket tournament held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Chasing the 81-run target set by Japan, Nepal reached it in 14.2 overs losing 1 wicket.

Shiwansh Bajgain topped the score with 38 runs including 7 fours off 42 deliveries followed by Prashiddha Jaishi with 33 runs while Joy Thapa scored 1 run off 7 balls.

On the bowling side, Kaisei KobayashiDoggett claimed 1 wicket giving away 12 runs in 3 overs.

Earlier, electing to bat first after winning the toss at the Kolej Tuanku Jaafar Oval in Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday morning, Japan was bowled out for 80 runs in 34.3 overs.

To restrict Japan to paltry 80 runs, Nepal’s Subham Khanal claimed the highest 5 wickets including three maidens in his 10-over spell.

He was well-supported by Abhay Yadav with 2 wickets while Sushil Bahadur Rawal, and Bipin Sharma trabbed took 1 wicket each, respectively for Nepal.

Japan’s captain Charlie HaraHinze, top-scored with 36 runs, while Gabby HaraHinze managed 13 runs. The rest of the batting lineup failed to reach double figures, leaving Japan with a modest target of 81 runs for Nepal to chase.

Earlier, Nepal defeated Singapore by  wickets in their opening match while Japan had thrashed Bhutan by 215 runs.

With the win over Japan, Nepal has now collected 4 points followed by Japan with 2 points, while Singapre is in the third palce in the points table.
