The Koshi Province government is making preparations for a possible ministerial reshuffle as the ruling coalition partners, Nepali Congress and CPN (UML), review the performance of ministers after one year in power.
Sources indicate dissatisfaction over some ministers' work performance, with Tourism, Forest, and Environment Minister Sadananda Mandal being the first likely to be replaced.
Internal discussions within both parties have highlighted concerns over budget allocation disputes and alleged misconduct. During a recent Nepali Congress parliamentary meeting, Minister Mandal reportedly clashed with Provincial Assembly member Indira Thapa over budget distribution.
Additionally, Mandal faces criticism for appointing an unauthorized person, Amrit Mehta, to handle official duties instead of his designated secretary, Santosh Mehta.
"Ministers are under scrutiny, and reshuffles are possible based on performance evaluations," said Gopal Tamang, Nepali Congress Chief Whip. Meanwhile, UML Chief Whip Bidur Kumar Lingthep stated, "Any decision on reshuffling ministers will be made by the Chief Minister."
Chief Minister Hikmat Kumar Karki confirmed no formal talks have been held yet with coalition partners. The reshuffle discussions come amid growing pressure from lawmakers to replace inefficient ministers.
