Nepal has defeated Singapore by 2 wickets to win the title of ACC Men's U-16 East Zone Cup held in Malaysia.
Chasing the 114-run target set by Singapore, Nepal reached it in 29 overs losing 8 wickets. To secure Nepal's victory, Joy Thapa scored the highest 24 runs including 3 fours off 53 deliveries followed by Shiwansh Bajgain with 20 runs while Prashiddha Jaishi and Parimarjan Yadav contributed 17 and 13 runs, respectively.
Similarly, Shubham Khanal scored 18 runs while Abhay Yadav 10 runs.
On the bowling side, Kapish Venkatraman took the highest 4 wickets, Yuvaan Pandey grabbed 2 wickets, Vedansh Gupta and Akash Teja claimed 1 one wicket each.
Earlier, electing to bat first after winning the toss at YSD UKM Oval, Bangi on Saturday, Singapore notched up 113 runs in 40.5 overs, losing all wickets.
To limit the opponent to a low target, Shushil Bahadur Rawal and Abhay Yadav took 3 wickets each, Shubham Khanal claimed 2 wickets, while Bipin Prasad Sharma grabbed 1 wicket for Nepal.
Rohan Austin Arun's 23-run score was the highest for Singapore. Arun hit 2 fours off 84 deliveries. Similarly, Captain Riaan Naik made 15 runs off 11 balls. Vedansh Gupta and Akash Teja contributed 12 and 10 runs, respectively.
The other batsmen could not score double-digit runs.
