A brother-in-law has shot dead his own sister-in-law in Sunsari district.

Arjana Khatun, a 17-year-old from Harinagar Village Municipality–6, was shot dead by her brother-in-law on Sunday night, police said.

Aazad Miya, whose house is in Araria, India, shot dead his sister-in-law Arjana, according to Sunsari Police Superintendent Suman Timsina.

Police stated that Miya has a criminal background. "The reason behind him shooting his sister-in-law is still under investigation," SP Timsina said.

Only the deceased Khatun and her sister lived in the house. The brother-in-law, who is from Araria district in India, would occasionally visit his sisters-in-law at night, and yesterday, he arrived at night and shot her dead, police said.

Initial investigations revealed that 17-year-old Arjana Khatun was shot from behind and died on the spot, SP Timsina informed.

"Aazad Miya has a criminal background. He has been accused of multiple crimes in India, including theft. Indian police are also searching for him, and we have found him hiding in Nepal," SP Timsina said.
