Heavy rainfall predicted in Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini

The monsoon wind is active across the country at present.

The Weather Forecasting Division informed that it will be generally cloudy today, while few places of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini provinces are likely to have heavy rainfall.

The upper hilly and mountainous places of these provinces are predicted to have moderate rains and snowfall.

Similarly, it will be generally cloudy coming night. Light to moderate rainfall is predicted in some hilly regions of Koshi, Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces, according to the weather bulletin issued by the Meteorological Forecasting Division at 6 am today.

According to meteorologists, within 24 hours:

  • Light rainfall: Less than 10 mm of rain.
  • Moderate rainfall: Between 10 to 50 mm of rain.
  • Heavy rainfall: Between 50 to 100 mm of rain.
  • Very heavy rainfall: Between 100 to 200 mm of rain.
  • Extremely heavy rainfall: More than 200 mm of rain.

Similarly, when it is said that rainfall will occur in "one or two places," it means that less than 10% of the area in the respective province is likely to receive rainfall.

  • If rainfall is expected in 10% to 30% of the area, it is said that "a few places may receive rainfall."
  • If rainfall is expected in 30% to 50% of the area, it is said that "some places may receive rainfall."
  • If rainfall is expected in 50% to 80% of the area, it is said that "many places may receive rainfall."
  • If rainfall is expected in more than 80% of the area, it is said that "most places may receive rainfall."
