A massive flood has occurred again in the Bhotekoshi River in Rasuwa in the wee hours on Wednesday.

The flood occurred in the Bhotekoshi River starting at 2 AM today. The flood caused extensive damage to the roadways, as informed by DSP Hem Bahadur Shahi, the chief of the District Police Office, Rasuwa.

"A flood as large as the one that occurred on July 8 has occurred yet again," DSP Shahi told Nepalkhabar. "The flood has washed away roads in seven to eight places."

He mentioned that due to the flood washing away the roads, the Pasang Lhamu Highway section has been blocked.

"From Syapru Besi to Timure-Rasuwagadhi, roads have been obstructed at various points," Shahi said. "Currently, this highway section is completely blocked. Roads have been washed away in nearly seven to eight places. A full assessment of the damage is yet to be made."

The roads damaged by the flood on July 8 had only recently been repaired, and vehicle movement had just resumed in the area a few days ago.

Shahi informed that the flood has caused new road cuts in both the repaired sections and new areas. Although there was no rainfall in the Rasuwa area, a massive flood occurred in the Bhotekoshi.

"Last night, there was no heavy rainfall in the Rasuwa area," he said. "This flood could have been caused by rainfall in Tibet or the bursting of a glacial lake, but we cannot confirm the exact reason yet. However, the flood is similar in scale to the one on July 8. There may have been a glacial lake outburst somewhere in the Tibetan region."
