An 18-year-old woman has been found dead in Kanchanpur. The victim's family suspects she was murdered.
Samjhana Bhatta, an 18-year-old from Beldandi Village Municipality–2, Sihapal, Kanchanpur, was found dead in her house in a hanging state on Sunday evening.
District Police Office, Kanchanpur, DSP Sagar Bohora informed that her husband, 24-year-old Pawan Bhatta, has been taken into custody for investigation.
The victim’s family has accused that Samjhana was regularly subjected to physical abuse at home, and her body showed signs of injuries. DSP Bohora also stated that the incident appeared suspicious.
"Although there were no major external injuries on the deceased's body, there were signs of possible assault," DSP Bohora told Nepalkhabar, "We have taken the victim’s husband, Pawan Bhatta, into custody for questioning regarding the incident. The victim’s family has also been called to the police office."
Family members said Samjhana was found hanging inside the house with a noose tied to the ceiling of the room with all doors and windows latched from inside. Samjhana and Pawan had a love marriage just five months ago.
The victim’s family has accused the husband of subjecting their daughter to mental and physical torture after marriage.
Police said her body has been kept at Mahakali Hospital for postmortem.
