The application for the Korean language test (KLT) under the Employment Permit System (EPS) has opened.
The EPS Korea Branch under the Ministry of Labor, Employment, and Social Security issued a notice on Monday, calling for applications for the KLT. This time, an estimated 5,300 candidates are expected to pass the test.
Under this, 3,500 candidates will pass for the manufacturing sector, while 1,800 will pass for the agriculture and livestock sector.
Nepali citizens have been going to Korea as laborers under the EPS system, as per the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Nepal’s Ministry of Labor, Employment, and Social Security and the Republic of Korea’s Ministry of Employment and Labor.
To select eligible candidates for this purpose, the first stage involves a language test. For this year, HRD Korea has allocated an estimated quota of 5,300 candidates and sent the examination schedule. The exam date will be announced later. The test will be conducted in a maximum of five shifts in a single day.
For the manufacturing sector, applicants must select one of three sub-sectors when filling out the form. Similarly, for the agriculture and livestock sector, one of two sub-sectors must be chosen.
Candidates who pass the language test will only be able to apply for employment after clearing the second stage, which includes a skill and competency-based test.
Nepali citizens aged 18 or above but not exceeding 39 years are eligible to apply.
Application registration will be open from August 11 to 16 (according to Nepali calendar). All language test centers will be located in Kathmandu. Applicants must visit EPS Nepal to fill out the form online.
While applying, a passport-sized photo must be uploaded, and an email address and phone number must be provided mandatorily. If there are errors in the application form, the candidate will not be allowed to participate in the exam. Once the application is registered, it cannot be modified.
The examination fee is NPR 3,866. The test will be conducted online via UBT (Ubiquitous Based Test). Candidates can check their scores online.
The validity of the language test results will remain for only two years from the date of publication. The exam will consist of 20 reading-related questions and 20 listening-related questions, each with a full score of 100.
The test will last 50 minutes (25 minutes each for reading and listening) and will be conducted continuously without any breaks. Candidates must bring their citizenship certificate and admit card when appearing for the exam.
If any candidate is found cheating or facilitating cheating, they will be banned from reappearing in the exam for four years.
