Nepal has registered a win over Saudi Arabia in the second half of the AFC U-20 Asian Cup Qualifiers, keeping its chance to qualify for the Asian Cup alive.
The match held at Changlimithang Stadium in Thimpu, which ended in a goalless draw in the first half, Nepal defeated the opponent thanks to a goal scored by Sukriya Miya in the last minute of the match.
Sukriya, who took to the field as an alternative player, scored the goal in the 90th minute of the match.
With the win, Nepal has notched up 4 points. On the other hand, Saudi Arabia, which suffered second consecutive losses, has crashed out of the AFC U-20 Asian Cup Qualifiers.
Nepal had played a draw 1-1 with Bhutan in the first match. Saudi Arabia had lost to North Korea with a wide margin of 15-0 goals in the first match.
Bhutan and South Korea are facing each other in the second match today.
Now, Nepal is scheduled to take on North Korea in the last match of the group stage on Sunday.
In the Asian Cup Qualifiers, Nepal has been drawn into a group with North Korea, Saudi Arabia, and Bhutan. However, Mongolia, which was originally part of this group, has withdrawn from the tournament.
The top teams of the Qualifiers will book berth in the AFC U20 Women Asian Cup to be held in Thailand next year.
A total of 32 teams participating in the Qualifiers have been drawn into eight groups. The winner and the other three runners-up will advance to the Asian Cup.
