Nepal is preparing to launch its second Nano satellite, named 'Munal', five and a half years after launching its first earth satellite, Nepali Sat-1. The Nepal Academy of Science and Technology (NAST) is leading the project in collaboration with the Space Academy Nepal and Kathmandu University High School.
Although the satellite's construction is complete, its launch has been delayed due to technical issues. The launch is being facilitated with technical support from NewSpace India Limited, under the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO).
Weighing approximately one kilogram, 'Munal' is more advanced than its predecessor and is equipped with two cameras capable of capturing RGB and NIR band images, with AI assistance for targeting specific locations. The project will cost around 20 million rupees.
An agreement has already been signed between NAST and ISRO for the launch, which is scheduled to take place by October this year, according to NAST Secretary Dr Rabindra Dhakal.
