Two prisoners have died after being shot at to stop prisoners while they were trying to escape from Ramechhap prison.
Chief District Officer of Ramechhap, Shyam Krishna Thapa, said that the Nepali Army had to open fire after prisoners tried to escape from the prison on Thursday morning.
“Two male prisoners have died due to gunshot wounds,” Chief District Officer Thapa told Nepalkhabar, “Their identities have not been revealed yet.”
According to Chief District Officer Thapa, the incident took place around 7 am on Thursday.
He also informed that 12 prisoners sustained injuries in the gunshots.
“Security personnel were forced to open fire after they did not obey the warnings not to come out,” Chief District Officer Thapa said.
Now the prison is under control of the security personnel, Thapa said.
There were 334 prisoners in the prison, including 16 women and 318 men. The Nepali Army has taken over the responsibility of the country's security since 10 pm on Tuesday after the Gen Z movement turned violent.
