The spokesperson of the Nepali Congress, Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat, has emphasized that the party must remain united for the protection of democracy.
Organizing a press conference at his residence today, he accused that some groups intending to infiltrate during the demonstration by Gen-Z have attempted to attack democratic values.
"Even though there is no parliament, we have not opposed it; however, it (the government) must move ahead in a constitutional manner. It could have been made more constitutional by actually having a parliament; it was not to be and there has been a flaw in that," the NC spokesperson said.
He said there would be serious discussions and debates within the party about the current situation. Spokesman Dr. Mahat stated that a democratic process and an elected government should be restored at the earliest possible.
He stated that arson at Singha Durbar, the Parliament building, the Supreme Court, the President's Office, as well as at private homes and businesses in the course of the Gen-Z demonstrations is regrettable and condemnable.
"I strongly condemn the acts of violence and destruction carried out by forces that undermine democracy, civil rights, and the progress of the country," said spokesperson Dr. Mahat.
He said the narrative that all leaders of political parties are corrupt is incorrect and also expressed sadness over the attack on Sher Bahadur Deuba, the president of the Congress party, who has fought for a long time in the struggle for democracy, and his spouse Dr Arzu Rana Deuba.
The party spokesperson mentioned that conclusions would be drawn on the recent events and the party's general convention after a balanced, restrained and thorough discussion in the party. (RSS)
