A 26-year-old man from Kavrepalanchowk, Yubaraj Kyapchaki, has been arrested on the charge of killing police officials from the Maharajgunj Police Circle during the Gen-Z protest.
An official from the Kathmandu Police Range informed that they have started the investigation on the arrested following the arrest.
Based on CCTV footage and videos publicly available on social media, the police have identified those involved in the killings. Among them, one person has been arrested and an investigation has been initiated on the charge of murder.
During the movement, three police officers were killed. Two of them were from the Maharajgunj Police Circle. Milan Ram and Uttam Thapa were beaten to death by the protesters in Maharajgunj. While 22 other officers were locked inside and set on fire, they were rescued by a Nepali Army helicopter. They were also injured from the beatings of irate protestors.
Similarly, some other police officials also sustained injuries from the attack by the protesters. Assistant Sub-Inspector Amrit Gurung, who was working at the Koteshwar Police Station, was also stabbed to death with a sharp weapon.
The police have also identified those involved in these incidents and launched a manhunt to nab them.
Likewise, the police are also searching for those who looted police weapons, uniforms, and those who set fires to public and private buildings.
More than 1,000 weapons have been looted from various police stations during the two-day Gen Z protests that occurred across the country including the Kathmandu Valley on September 8-9.
