Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal has said that those who suppressed the Gen Z movement on September 8 could be arrested.
Speaking briefly to media personnel at Singha Durbar, Minister Aryal stated that the state's investigating bodies have become active and expressed his commitment to act in accordance with the commission's advice and recommendations.
Media persons also inquired with Home Minister Aryal about the matter of restricting the passports of some top leaders.
"The state's investigating bodies have become active. The things that need to be done have been documented in the respective files. It will happen accordingly," he said. "The investigating bodies will decide what to stop. Why only the passport? They might have to record statements. They might have to arrest. Whatever happens is the prerogative of the investigating bodies. A commission has been formed. The commission will work."
He stated that the government will firmly stand its ground on the issue of good governance. He said that since the government has a six-month mandate to conduct elections, it will not back down from its work.
He said, "If the government doesn't stand firm on the matter of good governance, questions will arise about this government's mandate. The Gen Z people can raise questions. That is why the Prime Minister has already said in her address that this government will not compromise on the matter of good governance."
To investigate the killings and destruction that occurred on September 8 and 9 during the Gen Z movement, the government has formed a High-Level Investigation Commission under the chairmanship of former Justice Gauri Bahadur Karki. The commission started its work today.
The commission has decided to demand details and factual evidence of the physical damage and human casualties that occurred in Kathmandu and various parts of the country during the movement.
The commission has decided to request such details from bodies including the Supreme Court, the Ministry of Home Affairs, and the Chief Minister's offices.
