The government has asked former leaders and administrative officials to return vehicles and security personnel other than those provided by law.
The Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of Defense have been directed in writing to provide only the services and facilities specified in the law and in accordance with the approved standards to retired former political and administrative officials.
The letter issued by the spokesperson of the Ministry of Finance, Tanka Prasad Pandey, states, “In order to reduce unproductive expenditure and maintain economy, the Nepal government had decided on September 21 to provide only the services and facilities specified in the prevailing law and approved standards to the former political and administrative officials who have retired.
"If such services and facilities were provided other than in accordance with the law, such vehicles, goods, assistants, security personnel will be retrieved and other services and facilities will be suspended," reads the letter dispatched to the Home Ministry and Defense Ministry by Finance Ministry.
