The chairman of the CPN (UML) and former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, along with Ramesh Lekhak, then Home Minister from his own cabinet, and three other individuals, have been barred from traveling abroad.
The others restricted from foreign travel are former Home Secretary Gokarna Mani Duwadi, former head of the National Investigation Department, Hutraj Thapa, and former Chief District Officer Chhabilal Rijal.
A Judicial Inquiry Commission has limited their travel, stating they are under the scope of investigation for the alleged use of excessive force during the Gen Z movement. They will now also have to get the Commission's permission to travel outside the Kathmandu Valley.
"As the individuals listed above are under the scope of investigation in connection with the incidents of September 8-9, they are barred from traveling abroad. They are also restricted from leaving the Kathmandu Valley without the Commission's approval, as they must be present at the Commission at any time for the inquiry," reads the decision made by the Commission.
Prior to the cabinet decision, Sudan Gurung, self-proclaimed Gen Z leader, had submitted a memorandum to the Commission, demanding that five individuals including former Prime Minister Oli be barred from leaving the Kathmandu Valley.
