The death toll from the jeep accident that occurred on the inner road at Lisne, Bafikot Rural Municipality-7, Rukum West on Friday evening has reached eight.
According to the police, seven people died at the scene and one person died in the course of treatment at the District Hospital Salli when the jeep (Ra 1 Ja 422) met with an accident while traveling from the district headquarters Khalanga to Syalakhadi, Aathbiskot Municipality-2.
District Police Office Rukum West Information Officer Police Inspector Hari Prasad Pun informed that the deceased are 30-year-old Kamala Wali of Syala, Aathbiskot Municipality-2, 16-year-old Tekjang Budha, 15-year-old Dilmaya Budha, 17-year-old Manika Wali, 18-year-old Sharmila BK, 22-year-old Gopal Wali from the same place, and 15-year-old Kalpana Nepal and 28-year-old Sabita BK from Aathbiskot Municipality-1. Ten people were injured in the accident.
The injured are 17-year-old Sirjana Budha, 15-year-old Sapana Nepal, 18-year-old Juna Budha, 17-year-old Sangita Budha, and 19-year-old Shanti Budha, all from Aathbiskot Municipality-2.
Similarly, 17-year-old Anjana Airee, 20-year-old Mahima Oli, 17-year-old Manisha Thapa, 15-year-old Sabita BK, and the 34-year-old driver Topjang Budha were also injured.
Nine of the injured are undergoing treatment at the District Hospital Salle, while 18-year-old Juna Budha has been referred to Nepalgunj for further treatment.
Police said the jeep fell about 700 meters below the road. Police speculate that the accident may have been caused by overloading and the narrow road.
