Acting President of Nepali Congress (NC) Purna Bahadur Khadka has stated that the party's General Convention will be held on the stipulated date.

Addressing a program organized at the central party office in Sanepa on the establishment day of Nepal Tarun Dal, the youth wing of the NC, he said the ongoing Central Working Committee (CWC) meeting would decide to hold the regular General Convention, thereby addressing the demand for a special convention.

He stated that the CWC meeting would consider all issues, including the announced election, the regular convention, and conventions of sister organizations, before making its decision.

"Considering all matters together—the scheduled election, the party's regular convention, and the conventions of sister organizations—the party will also integrate the special convention proposed by the General Convention representatives within the timeframe of the regular General Convention," said Khadka, "The primary emphasis of this combined effort will be placed on achieving broader unit."

The current state of the nation is adverse following the Gen Z uprising on September 8 and 9, and Nepali Congress (NC) will play a crucial role in improving the situation, according to Khadka.

He further said that the country, and the NC party itself, are in their most challenging period. Khadka noted that despite establishing a democratic system where the people are the sovereign power through the constitution, the nation has suffered immense destruction.

The peaceful Gen Z youth movement, which began on September 8 with three demands—ending corruption, implementing good governance, and reversing the social media ban—resulted in the tragic loss of promising youths on that day. Khadka alleged that "massive infiltration" into the peaceful protest caused a major catastrophe for the country. The following day, September 9, saw widespread destruction and loss of life across the country within four hours, marking the first time in Nepal's history that the executive, legislature, and Supreme system were attacked and "turned to ashes."

He mentioned that historical sites like the Koirala residence in Biratnagar, Ganesh Man Singh’s residence in Chaksibari, Krishna Prasad Bhattarai’s ashram, and NC offices nationwide were destroyed.

Meanwhile, Khadka praised President Ramchandra Paudel's role in safeguarding the constitution post-movement and condemned the attack aimed at taking the lives of party president Sher Bahadur Deuba and central member Arzu Rana Deuba on September 9. Houses of leaders across the country were also destroyed.

Khadka also urged all Tarun Dal members to unite with great enthusiasm, discipline, patience, restraint, and responsibility to protect the nation and its citizens. He called on them to once again raise the Tarun Dal flag, unite to defend rights and citizens, and proceed with an awareness of how to stay safe from sudden threats.

He also shared that the message given by President Deuba on the first day of the current CWC meeting—delivered with immense courage from the burnt party office while recovering from medical treatment—provided the NC with great energy. Deuba's message acknowledged past shortcomings, stating, "We accept that there might have been shortcomings. We will move forward with broader unity for change and for the protection of rights." Khadka concluded that the current CWC meeting would send a message that the NC is united.
