Three people were killed in an avalanche in the Rolwaling Valley in Dolakha district on Monday.

According to Assistant Chief District Officer Aulakh Bahadur Ale of Dolakha, eight people went missing and four others sustained injuries in the avalanche.

"Three foreign nationals have died in the avalanche," Ale told Nepalkhabar. "The deceased are citizens of Canada, Germany, and France. Eight people are missing. It is learnt that Nepalis are also among the missing. Four people are injured in the incident. Rescue efforts are underway for them."

The avalanche had occurred near the base camp of Mt Yalung Ri in Rolwaling Valley, Dolakha, approximately 250km north-east from the Kathmandu Valley.

Although efforts were made this afternoon to rescue the injured and search for the missing, the mission was unsuccessful due to poor weather conditions.

According to DSP Gyan Kumar Mahato of the District Police Office, Dolakha, four climbers, who sustained injuries in the avalanche, had managed to arrive at the base camp.

A 15-member team, including Nepali guides, had set out from Na village on Monday morning to climb the 5,630-meter Yalung Ri peak.
