Bishnu Rijal, a Central Committee Member of CPN (UML), took the international stage of the 15th World Socialism Forum in Beijing to officially lay the blame for the recent collapse of the Nepal government squarely on "foreign reactionary forces."
Speaking at the forum on "The Crossroads of World History and the Choices of People of All Nations" on Tuesday, Rijal accused external elements of orchestrating the violent events of September 8-9, 2025, that ultimately led to the resignation of the two-thirds majority government led by Party Chairman KP Sharma Oli. He concluded his address by appealing for international socialist solidarity.
Rijal described the tumultuous events as an "unexpected and well-orchestrated conspiracy," citing evidence of detailed online planning for arson and attacks across key government institutions, including the Parliament, the Office of the President, and the Supreme Court.
He argued that the pattern of using protests that quickly escalate into violence in Nepal mirrors incidents seen in Latin America, Africa, and Bangladesh, suggesting a common "playbook" utilized by external powers aiming to undermine communist and progressive governments.
The UML representative used the address to firmly restate the party's ideological commitment, positioning the political setback as a direct result of foreign interference against its successful democratic socialist experiment.
Rijal strongly defended the party's guiding principle, People’s Multi-Party Democracy (PMPD), asserting that it has successfully allowed a communist party to "rise to power peacefully, govern effectively, and implement socialist programs through democratic means." He reaffirmed UML’s commitment to its national motto, "Prosperous Nepal, Happy Nepali," which he defined as a unique application of socialism rooted in Nepali realities.
UML leader stressed that the global struggle against capitalism, imperialism, and hegemony must continue, asserting that the party's core mission remains to "defend our people, protect our sovereignty, and carry forward the struggle for justice and dignity."
Rijal concluded by announcing UML's decision to launch a mass mobilization campaign against what the party calls an anti-democratic conspiracy, simultaneously appealing to the international socialist community for "moral support and solidarity" in their current struggle.
