Suman Raj Aryal, the Defense Secretary, has been appointed as the Chief Secretary of the Government of Nepal. A meeting of the Council of Ministers held on Monday at Singha Durbar decided to appoint Aryal as the 28th Chief Secretary, with effect from Wednesday.
The outgoing Chief Secretary, Eaknarayan Aryal, is retiring from service from midnight on Tuesday on the ground of 58-year age limit. Eaknarayan served as Chief Secretary for about 15 months.
Suman Raj Aryal will remain in service until July 10, 2026. After that, he will also have to retire compulsorily upon reaching the age limit of 58.
There were other secretaries in the fray for the post of Chief Secretary, but Aryal was five months senior to them.
He was promoted to secretary on February 1, 2021. He has become Chief Secretary about two and a half months before completing his term as secretary.
