Makwanpur UML chair fails to secure Gen Convention delegate spot

CPN (UML Makwanpur District Chairman, Shreedhar Pokharel, lost the elections for delegates to the party's 11th General Convention. A total of 17 representatives were selected from the district.

While delegates from Constituency-2 were unanimously selected, voting was held in Constituency-1 to elect the representatives.

District Chair fails to secure delegate spot
UML Makwanpur chair Shreedhar Pokhrel, who was a candidate for delegate from Constituency-1, failed to get elected, securing only 334 votes. He had filed his candidacy through a proxy while undergoing treatment for his wife at Bir Hospital. Following his defeat, he thanked the voters and stated the outcome would be reviewed.

Seventeen candidates contested for four open seats in Constituency-1. Finally, Navin Sigdel, Phurba Dorje Lama, Anaraj Jarga Magar, and Sunil Moktan were selected. Chairman Pokharel was among the 13 candidates who lost the elections in the open category.

Chairman Pokharel on Sunday morning posted a social media status, questioning the low turnout, "Thanks to the comrades who voted for me. Let's review why the voter turnout was less than 20 percent." Pokhrel had openly endorsed Senior Vice-Chairman Ishwar Pokharel for the party's chair in the upcoming general convention.

Anaraj Jarga Magar, Nabin Sigdel, Phurba Dorje Lama, Sunil Moktan, Arati Pathak, Bina Kumari Thing, Sita Bista, and Bol Bahadur Karki

Constituency-2
Hidam Lama, Eklaal Shrestha, Balaram Bal, Bhagawati Pudasaini, Rohan Lama, Sumitra Kafle, Bidur Humagain, Gita Kafle, and Dev Krishna BK.

All selected delegates from Makwanpur are considered close to UML Chairman K P Sharma Oli.
