An Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of Nepal Police residing in Sinamangal, Kathmandu, has been arrested on charges of killing his four-month-old son.
According to the District Police Range, Kathmandu, ASI Pushkar Karki was taken into custody from Nagdhunga while attempting to flee after allegedly committing a crime.
Spokesperson SP Pawan Kumar Bhattarai said Karki was arrested around 4 pm on Sunday after allegedly murdering his infant son, Mahir, and is currently being held in custody.
Preliminary police investigation suggests that Karki strangled the baby at their rented room in Sinamangal. The child had been undergoing treatment for a brain tumor.
Karki had not reportedly been in good terms with his wife, police constable Krishna Kunwar, over the child’s treatment. Both of them are stationed at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA), Kathmandu.
During the incident, Karki also assaulted his wife, injuring her. She is currently receiving treatment at Nepal Police Hospital, Maharajgunj, police said.
