A Nepali youth from Dadeldhura has died in a fire that broke out at the Arpora Nightclub in Goa, India.
The victim has been identified as 22-year-old Manoj Jora, a resident of Sukalikhset, Ward 1 of Bhageshwar Rural Municipality. He had been working at the nightclub.
According to Ward Chair Manikraj Bhatta, the family was informed about Jora’s death on Monday. The blaze resulted in 25 deaths including five Nepali nationals and six injuries, according to Indian media outlets.
After receiving news of the incident, Jora’s father Shyam Singh and other relatives left for Goa on Monday evening. They reached Delhi on Tuesday morning and continued their journey to Goa to receive the body.
The family has been devastated by death of Manoj. Manoj was the second eldest son in the family. His elder brother also works in India, while his father is engaged in farming back home. Only his parents and younger brother live in the village.
Due to the family’s weak financial condition, Manoj had dropped out of school and gone to India to support household expenses. He initially worked in Nagpur before moving to Goa a few years ago.
“Manoj was the family’s main support. Hearing such tragic news has stunned them,” said Shankar Singh Thakurathi, a local.
