One person was killed and six others were injured following a boiler explosion at Jyoti Distillery in Katahariya Municipality-9, Rautahat, on Saturday morning.
According to DSP Bishnu Basyal of the District Police Office, the deceased has been identified as 45-year-old Laxman Yadav, a resident of Baluwa in the same ward. Yadav reportedly died on the spot due to the impact of the blast.
The explosion occurred during the early morning shift at the distillery. While the cause of the blast remains under investigation, the impact caused significant damage to the facility and immediate injuries to nearby staff.
All six injured workers sustained severe burn injuries to their arms and legs. The injured were provided with initial first aid before being rushed to Birgunj for advanced medical treatment.
Investigation underway
Police officials have reached the site and launched a formal inquiry into the incident. "The exact cause of the boiler explosion is not yet clear," DSP Basyal stated, adding that investigators are looking into potential technical failures or safety negligence.
Local authorities are currently coordinating with the distillery management to assess the safety protocols in place at the time of the accident.
